Canada Sends 300 Delegates to India Amid CEPA Trade Push

Canada will send nearly 300 business delegates to Mumbai and Bengaluru from October 12 to 17, 2026, to strengthen trade and investment ties with India. The visit marks Canada's largest trade mission to India in more than 30 years.

Led by Canadian Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu, the delegation aims to connect Canadian businesses with Indian companies, industry leaders and potential customers. Key sectors include aerospace, agri-food and clean technology.

The visit comes as India and Canada work to conclude negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by the end of 2026. The fifth round of negotiations took place in Ottawa from October 5 to 9.

Both countries have set an ambitious target of increasing bilateral trade to CAD 70 billion by 2030, equivalent to approximately ₹4.75 lakh crore. In 2025, trade in goods and services reached CAD 30.4 billion.

Canada's merchandise exports to India include vegetables, mineral fuels, oils and wood pulp. Meanwhile, imports from India include precious stones and metals, machinery and pharmaceutical products.

Canada is also seeking to diversify its exports beyond the United States. Stronger economic ties with India could create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.

The upcoming trade mission highlights growing cooperation between India and Canada. Progress on CEPA could further expand market access, encourage investment and strengthen long-term commercial partnerships.
