The global automotive waste management market is projected to grow from $62.4 billion in 2025 to $109.7 billion by 2034, according to a report by DataIntelo. The market is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.5%, driven by stricter environmental regulations, rising vehicle scrappage and growing demand for sustainable recycling solutions.
As vehicle ownership increases and older fleets reach the end of their useful life, automotive waste management is becoming an important part of the circular economy. The industry handles materials such as scrap metal, plastics, rubber, used oils, batteries and other hazardous components.
Vehicle recycling is driving market growth. Metal recovery remains the largest material segment, accounting for 44.6% of the market. Meanwhile, plastic recycling is gaining momentum, supported by the need to reduce landfill waste and recover valuable resources from end-of-life vehicles.
The rapid adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is also creating new opportunities. Retired EV batteries contain valuable materials, including lithium, cobalt, nickel and copper. Advanced recycling technologies, such as hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy, can recover more than 90% of certain battery minerals, helping conserve resources and support battery material supply chains.
Recycling services account for the largest share of the market at 42.7%, followed by collection services at 31.4%. Stronger end-of-life vehicle regulations across major economies are encouraging businesses to improve waste collection, material recovery and responsible disposal practices.
Asia-Pacific leads the market, accounting for 37.4% of global revenue. China's large vehicle fleet, Japan's established recycling systems and India's developing vehicle scrappage ecosystem are supporting regional growth.
Looking ahead, investment in recycling infrastructure, safe EV battery transportation and digital waste tracking is expected to play a key role in industry development. As regulations tighten and demand for recovered materials rises, automotive waste management is becoming an increasingly important business opportunity for the global recycling industry.
