India’s textile sector is targeting a market size of $350 billion by 2030, according to Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh. The target reflects India’s ambition to strengthen its position in the global textile and apparel industry.
The sector is expected to benefit from initiatives aimed at improving manufacturing capacity, encouraging investment and increasing exports. Technical textiles, modern production technologies and value-added textile products are also important areas for future growth.
Government initiatives, including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and the PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) parks programme, aim to support domestic manufacturing and improve the industry’s competitiveness.
These initiatives are designed to attract investment, develop integrated textile facilities and strengthen supply chains. They could also create opportunities for manufacturers, suppliers and small businesses across the textile value chain.
India’s textile industry includes fibre production, spinning, weaving, processing, garment manufacturing and home textiles. Expanding these segments could help domestic companies serve growing demand in both Indian and international markets.
Technical textiles offer another area of opportunity because of their applications in healthcare, construction, automotive, agriculture and industrial manufacturing. Greater investment in advanced materials and specialised products could help Indian businesses move towards higher-value production.
Achieving the $350 billion target will depend on sustained investment, infrastructure development, innovation and stronger export performance. Improved market access and greater participation in global supply chains will also be important.
The government’s focus on manufacturing and textile infrastructure aims to support long-term industry growth. If these efforts translate into higher production and exports, India could strengthen its role as a major global textile and apparel hub by 2030.
