Telangana’s major textile clusters could benefit from India’s new textile recycling roadmap, which promotes multiple technologies to convert textile waste into new fibre. Key hubs include Warangal, Sircilla, Gundla Pochampally, Jadcherla and Mahabubnagar, along with textile units around Hyderabad and Karimnagar.

According to the Union Ministry of Textiles’ study “Mapping of Textile Waste Value Chain in India,” India generates around 7,073 kilotonnes of textile waste annually. About 58% is post-consumer waste, while 42% comes from factories.

The roadmap highlights the need for better collection, sorting and recycling infrastructure. Mechanical recycling can support large volumes of cotton waste, while chemical recycling could help process polyester-rich materials and produce higher-quality recycled fibres.

India’s textile recycling market is projected to reach ₹35,000 crore by 2030, with the potential to create around one lakh green jobs. Telangana could use its existing textile manufacturing base to develop circular textile parks and strengthen waste-to-fibre production.
