Writing Telangana Signs Two UK MoUs to Modernise Textile Sector

The Telangana government has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with UK-based institutions to modernise its textile industry. The partnerships aim to strengthen research, introduce advanced technologies and improve international-standard skills in handloom and technical textiles.

State Minister for Agriculture, Marketing, Cooperation, Handlooms and Textiles Tummala Nageswara Rao announced the agreements on October 14, 2026. The partners are the University of Huddersfield and the Textile Centre of Excellence (TCoE).

Focus on Research and Technical Textiles

The agreement with the University of Huddersfield was signed through Telangana’s Department of Handlooms and Textiles. It aims to promote research and development in technical textiles.

The partnership also plans to support joint academic programmes, faculty and student exchanges, and visiting academic appointments. These initiatives could strengthen knowledge sharing and encourage innovation across the textile value chain.

Advancing Skills and Textile Technology

The MoUs are intended to connect Telangana’s textile sector with international expertise. Collaboration with UK institutions could help develop specialised skills, improve production capabilities and support the adoption of modern textile technologies.

The partnerships also aim to create opportunities for research-led growth and investment in the state’s textile industry.

By combining local manufacturing capabilities with international knowledge, Telangana aims to strengthen its position in handloom and technical textiles. Effective implementation of these partnerships will be important to deliver long-term benefits for textile businesses, researchers and skilled workers.
