Polyester filament yarn manufacturers in North and Central America have launched YarnProof, a new verification system designed to confirm yarn origin across the textile supply chain. The initiative aims to improve transparency, strengthen compliance and support regional textile manufacturing.

YarnProof uses FibreTrace technology to embed an invisible, permanent tracer into polyester filament yarn during extrusion. The tracer remains with the material throughout its lifecycle. Specialised handheld scanners can detect it at key stages, including yarn production, fabric manufacturing and finished goods.

The system provides brands and manufacturers with additional evidence to verify the origin of textile materials. It also supports efforts to prevent origin fraud and improve confidence in sourcing decisions.

Kim Glas, president and CEO of the National Council of Textile Organizations, said YarnProof offers a new tool to support origin verification. She also highlighted its potential to strengthen regional manufacturing and help brands make more informed sourcing decisions.

Several manufacturers are participating in the initiative, including Aquafil O’Mara, Nan Ya Plastics Corporation America, Premiere Fibers, Unifi Manufacturing and United Textiles of America, alongside other regional producers.

YarnProof is designed to support compliance with the yarn-forward rules under the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR).

By combining physical tracing with existing documentation and certification systems, YarnProof adds another layer of verification to textile supply chains. The initiative could help manufacturers demonstrate product origin, strengthen compliance processes and improve trust among brands, suppliers and buyers.
